Caretaker manager of Welling United, Loui Fazakerley, believes Grimsby Town took their chances well but insists that Welling should have had a penalty
Loui Fakazerley admits that he knew it would be "very tough" to beat Grimsby as The Mariners are "very organised" but felt that with Welling's good home form, could pull off a shock result.
"I thought it would be very tough giving that they [Grimsby Town] are very organised and were third in the league."
He then went on to say, "We have got a good home record and a good squad of players."
"We really thought we had a good chance to win."
Welling have won 5 out of 20 games at home this season, while Grimsby have won 12 out of 21 away games, losing just 3 in the meantime. This puts Grimsby firmly top of the away form table.
When asked about the game, the Welling player-manager said, "I thought Grimsby were very organised and took their chances well."
"I thought we were hard done by with the penalty and another foul against us, that wasn't given, just before their second goal."
"We had a good second half but just didn't create enough clear cut chances."
I then asked what he thought of The Mariners' performance. He said, "They're one of the best sides I've seen this season. They have enough to get promoted."
Grimsby sit 1 point off top spot, while Welling are 7 points adrift of safety from relegation.
